Pleas for action to end terror
UNIONIST politicians were not hopeful today that the Government would introduce internment.
Although politicians from Sinn Fein from the DUP condemned the atrocity, republican sources said internment would be counter-productive and give succour to dissident republicans.
The SDLP is willing to support whatever measures are agreed by the two governments.
Sean Farren said it was important for the two governments to be supported in their decisions. Following calls by the DUP to recall the Assembly, Mr Farren said people should not be rushed into making decisions.
DUP deputy leader Peter Robinson called for internment and the sealing of the border in a meeting last night with the Prime Minister. The East Belfast MP was not hopeful the Prime Minister would follow his advice. "I don't think he will do anything that will annoy the IRA," he said.
DUP leader Ian Paisley did not meet Mr Blair, claiming he had been snubbed by the Prime Minister who was unable to meet him at the agreed time.
